Hello, and welcome back to another episode of the podcast. I'm your host, Jamie. And today I have Mim with me. Our final introduction of our team podcast episodes that we've got going over the last few weeks. So Mim, welcome. Thank you so much. I'm actually, I'm pretty stoked to be here. My podcast debut.
Happy to be here. I think Mim was the only one that was excited. Jake was nervous. Oh, Maddie was all right. Jake, definitely nervous. Mim, very excited. I feel like that's a level of energy. Kind of like through our personalities, like throughout the office. I'm the one that's just super keen for it.
Everything. Everything. Yeah. I love it. We need someone like that. All right. Do you want to tell us a little bit about you, your background and how you came to join the team? Yeah, of course. Um, so a little bit about myself, I am at the end of the year entering, um, a big three zero. So I'm pretty excited about that.
Um, but I guess more so about me and my personality. Um, I. A bit of a high energy kind of a gal. I'm, I guess, like people like to say I'm the, the hype gal of the friendship group. Yeah. I am from the country. Um, I moved to Perth about, oh, it's about 12 years ago now, which is pretty crazy to think. I am extremely fortunate.
I have a great partner called Jamie and luckily, luckily enough, I also have a stepson that comes along with him, which is really. Really beautiful. And I have actually always worked in the fitness industry and I, at the start of the year, Jamie approached me and asked if I wanted to join the boss team.
And I'm so fortunate for that opportunity. And I'm really stoked that I was able to kind of jump on board with that. Yeah. We needed a hype girl. Yeah. Well, that's me. All right, what is your role within the team and what do you enjoy most about it? So, um, I'm one of the brokers on the team and I think the thing that I love most is being able to connect with clients and I guess more of like that emotional supportive level.
Um, I do think it's one of my attributes. I also enjoy the fact that the building industry, I guess, is always evolving. So you're never, you're never limited on your ability to grow and kind of learn new things. So I get a lot of excitement, I guess, through that kind of like that feeling of a sense of reward from being able to keep growing and keep, you know, learning new things as the industry itself grows.
Yeah. Yeah. Love that. What's something that you're proud of from your time here? I think I'm proud in myself in the way that I've kind of, I guess there was like a really big turning point. You know, I think it's like anything when you start like a new job, that's that sense of like overwhelming feeling.
But I do feel that it was like a very big turning point where I was like, had the confidence in myself. Self to know that I have got it. Yeah, and I have the ability to do well and be able to help people So that's quite exciting. And I think the other thing would be just being able to help people. Yeah, it's so rewarding You know I've gotten that in the past from my like being in the fitness industry and I'm able to now Tap into that in a different industry which I really love.
Yeah. That's your why and your purpose. Absolutely. Yep. Yeah. What motivated you to pursue a career in the building industry? Other than me hunting you down. So it was about four years ago, I actually was fortunate enough to build my own house. I Had a fantastic experience. I was very lucky to have a good friend of mine help me along with the process.
And to be honest, there's nothing about that process that I would change. But obviously since then. You know, things with COVID and the building industry, and there are things that I look back and I'm like, I wish that I had a building broker as a young female, just someone to kind of help me understand contracts and, you know, the ability to be able to change a few things, maybe with my design and help kind of those.
Yeah. And even just things like site works and understanding what that is and what that entails and what that's there for, because look, honestly, the house could have been built upside down and I would have been like, yeah, cool. This looks good. So I think, well, if you don't know, you don't know. Yeah. So I think just being able to maybe have a broker back then would have.
It's just got me maybe like 20 percent further. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And it's one of those things like you don't get taught at school how to build a house or how to do your taxes or how to be an adult, you know? And if you don't know, you don't know and you just sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't work out.
But a lot of builders and sales reps take advantage of the, if you don't know, you don't know. So they don't have that sounding board there to kind of help you through the process. Oh, for sure. Yeah. When you're not working, what are some hobbies or things that you love doing? Cool. So outside of the office, you'll generally find me in the gym.
Um, so health and fitness is a massive part of my lifestyle. I love being active, love exercise. It just kind of, it makes me like the best version of myself physically, mentally, emotionally. Um, so when I'm also not in the gym, I will be spending time with my partner, Jamie, and my stepson, Oliver. And then any opportunity I get to kind of hang out with my friends.
Now the summer's coming, like being able to be in the sun is a huge upside for me in my life. We all do love being in the sun. Yeah, definitely a summer gal. Now, what do you love most about working independently as a building broker? I think it's been a big shift for me having kind of flexibility. You know, it's not your typical kind of like, I guess, nine to five, it gives you the flexibility to be able to kind of meet with clients whenever they need to, you know, it could be weekends.
It's a little bit more flexible in that regard. Family time, it can be a little bit more flexible, which I really do love, but I think that I'm definitely still adjusting to that. It's a big adjustment. Yeah, it is. And I, I've got a good work ethic. So when I feel like. You know, I don't need to be in the office cause I don't have anything on and I'm at home.
I feel a little bit guilty about that. So it's definitely adjusting to that new lifestyle and that new routine. But I do think having that in the future once I settle into it is so rewarding, especially for family time and you know, friends and even for clients to be able to have them come in at times that are not during work hours.
Because I do know that that's probably a struggle for a lot of people. Yep. Yeah, we essentially mostly work or meet clients in the opposite of when they work. Yeah. Which then gives us freedom and flexibility to do things, but also help clients at the same time. Absolutely. And it's nice, like, even just kind of coming in on the weekends and, you know, you're starting your day off, especially When you have, you know, you might have an info session and it goes really well and you have clients like leave the office and they're just so happy and you're just like, now I'm the biggest buzz.
Yeah. Now I'm fucking happy. Yeah. All right. Now, can you share an experience where you've helped a client overcome a challenge? What was the outcome and how did it positively impact the client's building journey? So I have a client, I'm sure she won't mind me dropping her name in here. Ah, Shay. We struggled to get her a block of land for quite some time.
Um, we missed out on a few releases. But my goodness, when we got that block of land, I was dancing in my kitchen, she was at her son's sports carnival, and I think that she was probably crying. But that was a very challenging, but so rewarding process, and that is definitely the most challenging part of the job at the moment, is trying to find land, so.
So the, the buzz and the high and the excitement we get from that is huge. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely. Cause once that's done, the process from there becomes like quite fun. Yeah. Yeah. That's definitely one of the most challenges. And She also sent you a brownie. Yes. As a little thank you. She said, yeah, I'm so bad at going to the post office.
Like, I just, I always forget. And I went there and I forgot my ID and I was like, oh my goodness. And then she sent me a message, have you picked it up? Cause she said, I don't know how long it's going to last in the box. And I went and picked it up. I needed to put it in the trolley. It was so heavy. I get my car and I open it up and there's just this huge slab of brownie with this like little inside joke on it.
So good. It was one of the best presents I've ever received. It's definitely one of the best presents that a client has given us through the company, even. Most of my club got some gifts of my time that is definitely out there with one of the top one. Yeah. Yeah. I was pretty stoked It was definitely sitting in the office That was a very I guess rewarding and special.
Yes, so kind. Yeah. Yeah All right Now to wrap up our episode have done this on the last three episodes with the Jake and Maddie If you had to describe our team slash company in three words, what would they be? Committed. Yeah. Love it. Passionate. Good one. Enthusiastic. Oh, that's so good. I love that each, each Fanny, Jake and Mim had such different like words, but they all together encompass it really, really well.
Yeah. I think that it was a bit of a mixture between like, even if not enthusiastic. authentic. Yeah. Because I think that we are all very different, but diversity within a team. And I've always said this is huge because there are so many personality types out there. And I think it's important to have diversity because of the diversity out there so we can all help each other get to that same end result.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Love it. Well, thank you so much for joining me on, um, your first episode. You'll hear from Mim a lot more when we all do some more team episodes. So thank you for coming on. I appreciate the, um, invite and yeah, can't wait to. Get amongst it a little bit more.
